What should I do if my employer is breaking the law?

We get questions once in a while from employees who believe their employer is doing something illegal, and one thing we’ve found over the years is that employees don’t always know for sure, and aren’t always correct, when they think that their employer is doing something illegal.

Sometimes it’s just a different way of doing things that the employee doesn’t approve of or thinks might be wrong, so you need to check and try to be sure that what’s happening is really illegal.

If you’re convinced that it is, you should certainly report that illegal conduct to a higher up in the organization, and if that’s not possible because the higher ups are involved in the illegal conduct, you should certainly consider contacting law enforcement to report the illegal conduct.

Also you should certainly consider consulting with an employment lawyer who can help guide you through this very difficult process.
