There’s no better time to soak up the last of your allotted vacation days than taking some extra time off around the holidays. If you’re looking for the city’s greatest attractions this season or just hoping to take in what our everyday city has to offer, we’ll give you a few suggestions.
You might be more inclined to take advantage of events normally happening during your routine work schedule. It’s time to check out all of the holiday’s attractions you otherwise would have been admiring from afar during your work hours.
Water Wonderland with Scuba Santa at The Newport Aquarium
This event runs November 27 – December 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Not only is this the perfect event to take small children, but it’s an attraction sure to please adults as well. You will be surrounded by an underwater holiday celebration including music, a light show throughout various exhibits, and most importantly, Scuba Santa.
24th Annual BCM…Holiday Toy Trains
If you’re into trains and holiday displays, this is the event for you. The Annual Holiday Toy Trains display at the Behringer-Crawford Museum will be running until January 17. Over 250 feet of track feature Lionel trains and Plasticville decked out for the holidays. The display is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10a.m. – 5p.m. and on Sundays, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children ages 3-17.
Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show
If you’re a fan of evergreens and poinsettias, the Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show will not disappoint. The show runs through January 3 daily, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The conservatory is completely covered in rich holiday-colored flower arrangements, sure to awaken your senses. Once you’ve set your eyes on all of the greenery and flowery you can handle, you can experience the Schmalz Family Holiday Village. The village is a collection of displays including a mountain scene, a holiday train scene, and the Caroler Village modeled after the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. The events cost $7 for adults, $4 for children, and ages four and under are free.
Holiday in Lights at Sharon Woods
Every night until January 2, you can participate in the over 20 year old tradition of the Sharon Woods “drive-thru” holiday light show. A mile long road surrounded by woods is lit up with holiday lights. The experience is advertised as best taken in from the cozy warmth of your car with Warm 98 streaming from the car speakers. Each vehicle is a $13 admission charge and the hours are Sunday – Thursday, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday – Saturday, 5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo
Think of all of the great zoo fun styled for the holidays and you’ve got a pretty good picture of the annual Festival of Lights event at the Cincinnati Zoo. The event is open throughout January 2, Sunday – Thursday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturdays, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. You have the chance to walk through animal exhibits and see many of them before their bedtime. While doing so, you can indulge in hot chocolate at a number of stations around the zoo along with other holiday treats. The Toyland Express and Carousel Holiday 4-D Experience will be featured for the entertainment of even the smallest children.
Whatever you choose to fill your vacation time with this holiday, you won’t have to worry about running out of things to do in Cincinnati.
